Dakhla: High-Performance Kiting Between the Desert and the Atlantic
Deep in the Western Sahara, Dakhla is a geographical marvel. A 40km-long peninsula creates a massive turquoise lagoon on one side and the raw Atlantic Ocean on the other. It’s a place of silence, wind, and pure focus.
The Wind & Climate:
The «Alizés» (North-Northeast winds) blow almost year-round, but April to October is peak season. You can expect 20 to 25 knots with incredible consistency. Despite being in the desert, the Atlantic keeps the air fresh (20-25°C), though a shorty or 3/2mm wetsuit is recommended as the water stays around 18-22°C.
The Dual-Spot Experience:
- The Speed Spot: At low tide, the water recedes to create a perfectly flat «Speed Spot» where you can break your personal speed records or master unhooked tricks.
- Wave Heaven: Spots like «La Sarga» or «Oum Lamboiur» offer long, peeling right-handers for those looking to improve their strapless game.
- The White Dune: A must-visit downwind destination where you can jump from a massive white sand dune directly into the crystal-clear lagoon.
Dakhla is where distractions die and your riding comes to life.
